Cracked or broken glass

Broken Window Glass Replacement

Tell us which window is damaged and where the property is. Proplas can assess the glass and surrounding opening in Innisfil and Barrie.

Keep clear of loose glass. Photos are optional and should only be taken from a safe position.

A useful first message

What can you tell us from a safe distance?

You do not need to dismantle or measure a damaged window to request a quote.

  • The room, floor and affected window.
  • Whether the glass is cracked, shattered or missing.
  • The approximate number of damaged openings.
  • A rough size, if already known.
  • Any visible frame damage, leaks or difficulty operating the window.

An overall photo and a closer view can help, provided both can be taken without approaching loose glass. Do not remove fragments or retaining parts for a clearer picture.

Identify the construction

One sheet of glass or a sealed assembly?

Single-pane glass

A single-glazed opening holds one sheet. Its dimensions, thickness, glass type and retaining method determine the appropriate replacement. The surrounding frame still needs to hold it securely.

A broken pane in a sealed unit

Multiple panes joined at their edges form a sealed insulating unit. If one pane breaks, the usual approach is to replace the affected unit as an assembly. The unbroken pane is not treated as a stand-alone substitute.

Look beyond the crack

The frame may change the scope

Damage to the sash, glazing stops or frame can affect whether replacement glass is suitable. The cause of a crack may also need assessment; a photo does not always explain it.

Where the existing assembly cannot be retained appropriately, full-window replacement is part of the conversation. New glass alone should not be presented as a cure for every surrounding defect.

Before an order

Confirm the glass and the work together

Size and quantity are only part of the quote.

Single-pane or sealed construction, applicable safety-glass needs, special shapes, coatings and available retaining components affect the replacement. Height, exterior access and frame condition affect installation.

Production requirements and the agreed specification determine the proposed schedule. Final ordering measurements must be confirmed; sending an enquiry does not book an appointment.

Your questions

Questions about damaged window glass

Start with what you can see. We can help clarify what needs checking.

What should I do before contacting Proplas?

Keep people and pets away from the affected area. Describe which window is damaged and whether glass is cracked, loose or missing. Only take photos from a safe position; do not handle fragments or dismantle the window.

Is a single pane replaced differently from insulated glass?

Yes. A single-glazed opening holds one sheet of glass. A sealed unit contains multiple panes assembled together; breakage usually calls for replacement of that unit. The existing glazing construction has to be identified before ordering.

Can you tell why the glass cracked from a photo?

A photo can document the damage but may not establish its cause. The crack pattern, edges, surrounding assembly and reported circumstances can all matter. Do not assume that every crack comes from an impact.

Do I need to measure the broken glass?

No exact measurement is needed for the first enquiry. An approximate size is useful only if it can be obtained safely. Leave ordering measurements and any work around damaged glass to the assessment.

What if the frame was damaged as well?

Describe that damage in the same enquiry. The frame, sash and retaining pieces must support the replacement correctly. A damaged assembly may need a different scope, including consideration of a complete window replacement.

How soon can the replacement be installed?

The glass specification, manufacturing requirements, quantity and access determine the proposed schedule. Send the location and damage details so the next step can be discussed. An enquiry does not reserve an installation date.

Start with the glass

Tell us which glass needs replacing.

Send the problem and property location. Proplas will review your enquiry and contact you about the next step.

For photos, one overall view and a closer view of the affected area are useful. Stay in a safe position; leave loose glass and retaining parts alone. Photos and approximate dimensions are optional.
